The Soul Houses originally served as both homes for the spirit of the deceased and offering trays used in rituals to honor and nourish the afterlife. These small objects symbolized a tangible space where the soul could reside, creating a physical connection between the living and the dead. During the Middle Kingdom in ancient Egypt, they marked the surface of tombs for ordinary people, blending practical function with spiritual meaning. This series unfolds across a set of cave plateaus, where masses of glass, earth, and rock are fused together. They form a series of liquid and mineral refuges—empty spaces that invite reflection and memory. These miniature, vacant refuges acknowledge what cannot be seen or touched directly, offering a quiet space for contemplating the relationship between the physical and the spiritual. They serve as simple, stable sites for thought and remembrance, emphasizing the importance of having a sanctuary for reflection within the unknown.
